At the time of checkout, the items get read by the tag and generate messages for the host system. After processing these messages the host system informs another partner in the supply chain. Retailers have limited shelf space available. The allocation of scarce shelf space among the stocked items and the choice of items to stock becomes major issues for the retailer.
